When a Pastor May Refer Someone to CJS
Pastors and ministry leaders often walk with people through conflict, but some disputes require additional structure, documentation, neutrality, or guided resolution. CJS can help when a matter would benefit from Christian mediation, a written reconciliation agreement, or a more formal faith-based resolution process.
Situations That May Be Appropriate
- Disputes between Christians seeking biblical reconciliation
- Church or ministry leadership conflicts
- Nonprofit or board-related disputes
- Relational disputes where both parties may be willing to participate Conflicts involving accountability, forgiveness, restitution, or written agreements
- Situations where a pastor wants a neutral Christian process to support reconciliation
Situations That Should Not Be Referred Through This Form
CJS should not be used as a substitute for emergency services, law enforcement, mandatory reporting, legal counsel, civil court filings, or crisis intervention. If someone is in immediate danger, if abuse or criminal conduct is involved, or if urgent legal deadlines exist, the person should contact appropriate authorities or qualified legal counsel.
What Happens After a Referral?
- CJS reviews the referral for safety and mission fit.
- CJS contacts the referred person if consent has been provided.
- CJS may schedule an intake conversation.
- CJS determines whether guided Christian mediation may be appropriate.
- If mediation is unsuccessful or not suitable, a formal Christian resolution hearing may be considered if appropriate.
- CJS follows up responsibly and keeps the process orderly.
Please Confirm Consent Before Referring
Before submitting a referral, please confirm that the person being referred has given permission for CJS to contact them. If the matter involves multiple parties, CJS may need to contact each party separately to explain the process and confirm willingness to participate.
What Pastors Can Expect
When a pastor or ministry leader submits a referral, CJS will review the information provided and determine whether the matter appears appropriate for a faith-based dispute resolution process. CJS may contact the referring pastor or ministry leader for clarification before contacting the person being referred.
CJS does not replace pastoral care, church discipline, legal counsel, emergency services, counseling, or mandatory reporting responsibilities. The goal is to support appropriate matters with a structured Christian process focused on truth, accountability, reconciliation, and restoration.
